  • Souper Bowl of Caring - January-February

"Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat". This was the prayer spoken in 1990 that launched this movement. Since then, nearly 2 million dollars has been generated through the Tackle Hunger programs. We support this effort with a collection as well as being a drop off site. To learn more, visit the Tackle Hunger website.

  • Soles4Souls - March

Over 107 million pairs of shoes and pieces of clothing have helped people across 140 countries since 2006! Soles4Souls has the following programs; 4Opportunity, 4Relief, 4EveryKid and 4ThePlanetturns that aim to make a positive difference in people's lives as well as the planet. We support this effort collecting shoes as well as being a drop off site for them. For more information visit the Soles4Souls website.

  • Easter Baskets - April

Annually, we collect candy, games, puzzles, crayons, pre-made baskets and more to donate to the Northport Food Pantry to help them provide for their families in need.

  • Northport Rotary Book Drive - May

The Northport Rotary conducts an annual book drive to help support education and literacy for children. Most books are donated to Hindi’s Libraries which has partnered with over 750 nonprofit organizations spanning across all 50 states, India, Africa, Haiti, Puerto Rico and more. We support this effort through our collection of the books and as a drop off site.

  • Kings Park Day - June

The Kings Park movie theatre was the space that Abiding Presence Lutheran Church used for worship from 1963-1968. The congregants could still smell the popcorn on Sunday mornings! We are humbled to take part in celebrating Kings Park Day!

  • Northport Pridefest - June

The mission of Northport Pridefest is to celebrate Pride history, embrace the diverse segments within the LGBTQ+ community, inform the LGBTQ+ community about health and social services available to them, educate the community-at-large about LGBTQ+ issues, foster mutual understanding,

empower people to stand up for equal rights and inspire love and respect for one another.  We support this mission and have proudly participated in the annual Northport Pridefest day since its inception in 2023. To learn more, visit the Northport Pridefest website.

  • School Supplies - August

We collect school supplies for the month of August to prepare children in need of assistance for the new school year. School supplies can also be ordered online and shipped directly to Abiding Presence. Monetary donations are always appreciated as well!

  • Thanksgiving Meals - November

We collect traditional Thanksgiving dinner foods to assemble meal bags for families served by the Northport Food Pantry. The Confirmation students assemble the meal bags.

  • Operation Christmas Child - November

Since the first shoebox was given in 1993, more than 232 million children in over 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. For some children, this is their first gift. But more importantly, the shoebox represents a tangible expression of God’s love. We are proud to be part of this heartfelt ministry. Visit Samaritan's Purse to learn more.

  • Adopt-A-Family Christmas Tree - December

The Adopt-A-Family effort allows local children to receive gifts that they may not otherwise get on Christmas. Tags are hung on the tree identifying a need based on the gender, age and request of the recipient. You choose a tag, shop and drop off the unwrapped items under the tree. We'd say it feels as good to do this as it does for those receiving it!

  • Winter Coat Drive - December

Annually, we collect new and gently used coats to distribute to those in need.

  • Blood Drives

Twice a year we host a blood drive to help save lives. Please check our events page for details. Traditionally we have held them in July and November.

  • Garden of Hope - Ongoing

This important ministry provides fresh produce to the local food pantry. Donations of vegetable plants (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans, etc.) are greatly appreciated in the spring and summer months. Monetary donations are also accepted and appreciated. Please contact Marina Bedrossian if you would like to volunteer your time to help with the Garden of Hope.

  • Prayer Shawls - Ongoing

Care and the love of knitting & crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is placed on the altar and blessed. The blessing is rippled from person to person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of God. If you are interested in becoming part of our ministry or if you know someone who would like to receive a prayer shawl, please contact our church office at 631.269.6454 or abidingpresenceoffice@gmail.com
